Massachusettes Institutue of Technology Family Weekend 2008

The weekend of October 15th-17th I flew to Boston to photograph the MIT Family Weekend 2008.  It was a gorgeous Fall weekend, and I got some great image of families having a good time with some fun events mixed in.

Take a look at the slide show here!

Michael and Melissa

Though I wasn’t taking the pictures for this wedding, I did get some great shots of Mike and Missy before and after.  Mike is my brother in law, and it was great to see the whole family in Havelock for this wedding.  Mike and Missy have been together for over 5 years now, so it’s only a natural progession that they got married.  Congratulations you two!

San Francisco Revisited

A couple of weeks ago I was in San Francisco first for pleasure, with a trip to Napa Valley, then for business.  The time I had for pleasure was filled with some awesome photos.

State Fair

The Minnesota State Fair is a gird, and completely paved.  Vendors there, are more often than not permanent structures, with the All You Can Drink Dairy House permanently housed across from the new Miracle of Birth Pavillion.  There is more focus on the actual farming portion of the fair than on the rides or horticulture buildings.  The midway was small, but well lit and bursting with typical carnival fare.

This all being said, I’m not a “fair person.”  Keep your deep fried chees curds (but not the deep fried pickles, I need to learn how to make those!), and instead let me stay home to watch a movie called State Fair.   Even so, from a photographic perspective, I loved going to the Fair and taking shots of the rides, people, lights, and food.  Check out some of the shots below, and let me know what you think.

An End to Summer

Living here in Minnesota has made me realize how very short the summers are at this latitude.  Coming from North Carolina, it’s easily warm from March until November.  I can remember times when it was a balmy 78 degrees for Thanksgiving in Chapel Hill.  In Minnesota, by stark contrast, it’s chilly by Thanksgiving, to say the least.

This summer, I’ve tried to make the most of the extraordinary short growing season by planting bulbs of Peonies, Camelias, Fresia, Clematis, and Gladiolas.  There’s nothing like summer when you have tons of flowers on your front and back patios.  We live in a town home, so a yard where we can plant in the dirt is really impossible for us, and met with a steep fine by our authoritarian home owners association.  On top of the flowers I have herbs, rose bushes, and lots of geraniums and petunias (my husband’s favorite.)

With all of these flowers, and in their peak, I just had to take some pictures and share them with everyone.  It seems like as soon as Labor Day comes along, it cools off and Fall is among us in Minnesota, so here’s to helping extend the growing season!
